Pygmy Returns
Another Attackby Dan Hartman
March 8, 2022
Well, it took awhile, but the pygmy owl finally made another appearance. This time it picked on prey more its' size. A gray-crowned rosey finch.Like before it perched for 15 to 20 minutes before carrying its' prey up into a thick spot some 25 feet up in a fir.
It took me another half hour to finally locate him again, then only because feathers were floating down and a pair of gray jays began harassing the little owl.
We watched it pluck and feed for the next hour, when it cached what was left of its' catch by pushing it down in to a small fork. Then it actually backed up along a branch, turned and flew off.
